Current Favorites: Part 3

Item number three: 101 Cookbooks website.

Around this time last year, I made a decision to eat meat sparingly. I've experimented a lot, both to the joy and horror of my family. We are now eating meat-free about 5 days out of the week. I knew it would be a long process and it has. There has been some weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

But guess what? I am a lioness at the gate. As Julie Beck said in her speech Lioness at the Gate: Whatever happens in that home and family happens because she cares about it and it matters to her. She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her.

So, I ignore the complaints and try to create the most delicious, healthy meals I can. I focus on healthy, fresh, local produce "in the season thereof." And the kids are slowly coming around. They love quinoa and raw macaroons and green smoothies. Mr. Coleman goes to Del Taco some nights. (You can't win them all.)

I love this website. Beautiful photography, seasonal-based meals, new ways to use all types of grain, searchable by category or ingredient. And lots and lots of vegetarian and vegan recipes.

Some favorites have been:

Happy eating.

  1. oooo this is perfect for my new food goals. i probably eat meat once a week right now, but i'm thinking of letting it go altogether for a bit.

you would have loved the hilarious argument about being a "vegetarian" we had in our house for hours last night, and even through a temple session. let's just say i have questions about why people can interpret certain parts of the word of wisdom however they want, but not other parts of it... maybe you can provide your insight and we can have a healthy discussion during our family reunion.

    also, you're basically my hero.

  2. Jason thinks he'll die if he only eats meat a few times a week. Maybe I need to be more creative.

I've decided I won't be offended from your personal definition of accountants. I'm personally grateful that you didn't poke your eyeballs out and bash your head on the wall.

  3. I'm pretty sure I'd be over at Del Taco if my husband tried that. Thats why it's a nice thing I cook, since I'm the pickiest person in this house. :)

I heard that talk from Sister Beck, wasn't it fantastic?
