book recommendations, and a GIVEAWAY!

today i am directing you to olivia's blog where i shared a few book recommendations. she asked what i look for in a favorite book, and i shared here.

also, i just now finished THE RAVEN BOYS by maggie stiefvater and let me tell you, i think you're going to like it. a great ghost-like story with fantastic characters and a lot of seemingly unsolvable problems brewing. and i think, like me, you'll be really frustrated that you have to wait for the next one in the four-book series. it's really good. eeek!

and now, my first giveaway! i loved this book so much that i'm planning on buying the hardcover. the copy i have is an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy) that is signed by maggie, with a few marks from me (it's well-loved, and i wasn't sure i wanted to give it away when i first read it). i'm giving away this copy to one lucky person that comments here. spread the word. the book comes out september 18 and now's your chance to read it early, before it comes out, if you are an impatient fan like me.

leave a comment with your email if you think i might not have it to be entered to win. contest closes sunday, september 2 at midnight, mountain daylight time. good luck!

  1. I'm actually very excited to read this book. I'm glad to hear that you love it. I've heard mixed reviews about The Scorpio Races, but I've only heard good things about Raven Boys so far.

Did you ever finish the Shiver series? What did you think of the ending if you did? I still haven't read Forever yet. I'm so behind on books. *sigh* But, there are worse things to be behind on. At least I have books to look forward to!

    1. i really loved THE SCORPIO RACES. i thought it was such a great example of creating really high stakes for the characters. plus a really wonderful love story. sigh.

i finished the shivers series and thought the third book felt a lot like the first, which means i loved it. i could discuss the second book in the series with you in private ;-) ha!

  3. Maggie Stiefvater is one of my favorite writers of all time. She's so unique and brings such amazing characters to the field... werewolves, capaill uisce (I am so worried I butchered that word since I'm writing it off of memory), and now psychics! Ah!

Thanks so much for the opportunity to win. I think that any book that an individual has to argue with themselves over to giveaway is truly a keeper. I finally just convinced myself to give away my ARC of Pushing The Limits! haha

  5. Oh! Oh! Pick me! Pick me! BTW, it's very generous of you to give this copy away. Especially since you loved it enough to mark in it.

  6. I stalled out on the Shiver series after book two. But I loved Scorpio Races so I'm looking forward to this one! And how did I not know that there was a sequel to Finnikin out?! I have it on hold so hopefully it comes in soon!

  8. I don't want to win the book, so you can give it to someone else if my name is drawn. I know there's no way I'd get to it before the 18th, and afterwards it sounds like I should just buy it. :) I'm glad to hear you liked Scorpio Races, I've been meaning to read that one. I thought Shiver was very well written, but didn't go on to books two and three. I've been meaning to pick up Scorpio since it's a standalone.

  11. to date i think maggie has written one of my all time favorite lines: "As the hours crept by, the afternoon sunlight bleached all the books on the shelves to pale, gilded versions of themselves and warmed the paper and ink inside the covers so that the smell of unread words hung in the air." ah, the smell of unread words. brilliant.

  12. I absolutely love Maggie Stiefvater. When I first got the Scorpio Races, I holed up in my room with it until I was done. There's nothing better then an excellent book, and I'm so excited for the Raven Boys!

  14. Stumbled upon this chance to win The Raven Boys ARC. I was just selected for flight school by the Army so this would be fantastic to win before I head out to flight school (for 2 years of incredibly rigorous training)! Fingers crossed!

Also, love the image above. The skull over top is amazing.

  15. I haven't heard of any of these books in the comments. So I will have to read them all. I want to read this but I also want to wait cause I don 't want to read any series until they are all out, my memory is just too bad!
